Regional Development Australia (RDA) Goldfields Esperance are thrilled to announce that the Esperance Ravensthorpe Leadership Initiative (ERLI) will run again in 2024, with thanks to project sponsors Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission and Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The program has evolved significantly from its previous iterations (Future Leaders Program Esperance in 2021, Future Leaders Program Goldfields in 2022 and Esperance Ravensthorpe Leadership Initiative in 2023) as the team have taken on board feedback and learnt what works well and what can be improved.
Working closely with South Regional TAFE, RDA Goldfields Esperance have developed the 2024 program as a series of six full day monthly workshops designed to balance professional development with academic learning – covering five / six essential micro-credentials from a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. This dual focus ensures that participants not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills that can immediately be applied within their professional lives and community roles.
The workshops will be interactive, combining traditional classroom learning with real-world applications. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, from case studies and group discussions, to hands-on projects that encourage them to apply what they’ve learned in a community context. They will also be connected with a local mentor.
Our program emphasises the importance of building and nurturing local relationships. Through collaboration with local businesses, community leaders, and organisations, participants will have unique opportunities to expand their networks, gain insights into different sectors, and understand the intricacies of community leadership. This aspect of the program is designed to encourage participants to step up as community leaders, apply for more challenging job roles, and importantly to volunteer in local community groups, thereby directly contributing to the region’s growth and development.
Chair of RDA Goldfields Esperance, Lee Jacobson, said “By providing access to tailored professional development and accredited qualifications, all within the supportive framework of our community, we’re not just responding to a current demand but actively investing in the future. This program stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering leadership, enhancing local capacity, and building a stronger, more connected community for years to come.”
If you are looking for a way to give back to the local community, reach out to us and find out how you can get involved. We are looking for mentors, sponsors and local speakers to assist our participants to benefit as much as possible throughout their ERLI experience.

ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY REGIONAL DATA
RDA Goldfields Esperance have partnered with Goldfields Voluntary Regional Organisation of Councils (GVROC) to build a cohesive story of the regional economy, how it is changing and how it compares to other regions through DataAU.
DataAU was developed to provide data interpretation, value, and insight for strategic community, economic development, and social infrastructure planning. DataAU is backed by over 400 socio-economic and demographic datasets, exclusive indicators, modelling tools and graphically designed reports that effectively communicate information and insights. This data repository is constantly expanding, with current datasets updated within two weeks of release from the primary source, and new datasets added were relevant. You can be confident about the quality of the information as it is derived from official sources and the most robust economic modelling, analysed and presented by experts. A limited amount of information has been made available as a public resource designed to be used by local government councils, community groups, investors, businesses, students and the general public, click here to view.
